Take aim against hunger

North Carolina Hunters for the Hungry, Inc. utilizes an abundant natural resource to meet the needs of the communities in which we live.

Hunger in nc

Food insecurity describes a household's inability to provide enough food for every person to live an active, healthy life. North Carolina is the eighth hungriest state in the nation-- 1 in 7 adults and more than 1 in 5 children struggle with food insecurity. Every night, people in 590,000 households in NC do not have enough to eat. By working with hunters, processors, and hunger relief agencies, the North Carolina Hunters for the Hungry, Inc. aims to the meet hunger needs of these communities.

our purpose

North Carolina Hunters for the Hungry, Inc. (NCHFTH) is a voluntary, nonprofit corporation which exists to:

  • Provide venison from North Carolina licensed meat processors to food relief agencies for the purpose of feeding food insecure North Carolinians;

  • Compensate NC licensed meat processors for processing legally harvested deer into venison burger;

  • Encourage NC hunters to donate legally harvested deer to NC licensed processors;

  • Seek resources of revenue to compensate NC licensed meat processors; and

  • Encourage the formation of individual chapters throughout NC.

Why deer?
  • America's deer population has increased from 20 million in 1990 to 33.5 million in 2017, with about 1 million in NC.

  • Crop damage sustained by farmers and deer-auto collisions have risen dramatically.

  • Hunting was found to be the only cost effective method of controlling & maintaining a stable deer population.

  • A surplus of nutritious venison exists that can be utilized to help feed hungry North Carolinians.
